Line up and staging begins at 9:00 a.m. at the location noted below. See note below as to how to get to the line-up area.
Parade held rain or shine.
Parade starts in the Southwest part of Mitchellville and ends at the city park. Distance is approximately 1.2 miles. SEE MAP BELOW.
Center Street will be closed Saturday morning between Jet and Third St. NW. Non-parade traffic will be redirected onto Jet/Elm to Mill Street.
GENERAL INFORMATION
The safety of participants in our parade is important to us. We ask that you not have any person on your entry in an unsafe or dangerous position. Please be respectful to homeowners in the area and not block their driveways.
Each entry should maintain a reasonable pace so they do not cause gaps in the flow of the parade.
You may throw candy but try to throw it as far into the crowd as possible. We usually have many kids running into the street to pick up candy so please be aware of them.
If you have horses or other animals, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CLEAN UP AFTER THEM SHOULD THEY DO THEIR THING. Staging for live animals will be on the west side of Elm Street at Carter (alternatively near the corner of High and Market) to avoid interference with noisy parade entries.
We do not have a formal theme but we would encourage you to have signage
identifying yourself, group, organization, etc. This is a good opportunity to
advertise and promote the town and area businesses.
LINE UP AND STAGING: Only parade entries allowed in the staging area. All
drop offs should be at the elementary school, where a shuttle will be available
1. Do not plan to drive into the staging area to drop off an entry or
participant. Members of your entry that would be riding with you or walking, we
encourage to park and/or meet at the elementary school. We will be providing
shuttle service from there to the staging area in an effort to cut down traffic
congestion in the staging area . Shuttle service will also be available to
return people to the school after the parade. SEE MAP BELOW.
2. If you are going directly to staging and entering town from the south, turn
left onto Jet and then right on either Market or Space to line up. If you are
entering town from the north, please use Mill Street to get to Market. Turn
southbound onto Market and line up.
3. FIRE DEPARTMENT entries will be lining up northbound on Center Street, south
of Carter.
4. Parade officials will be available to help direct you to the appropriate
location and attempt to avoid traffic congestion.
We are planning to have a tent in the park at the end of the parade where we will be giving complimentary water to those in the parade.
